Coach Responsibilites

TFA Coach Responsibilities


All TFA Coaches must do the following:

1.  State of Ohio Return to Play Law (Concussion Training):  It is a TFA coach's responsibility under Ohio Law to complete the online training.  Review the Concussion Law details below which include a link to the NFHS training course.  Once completed, you must upload a copy of your certificate into your Stack Sports account.  See the Stack Sports instructions below.  This must be completed once every three years.

2.  KidSafe Risk Management/Background check:  The background check for the Risk Management will be initiated when the Coach registers in the club's Stack Sports system.  See the Stack Sports instructions below.  This must be done every year.

3.  Team Administration: Guidelines for Coaches  All coaches should be familiar with this guide which outlines all the responsibilities of a coach related to team management.

4.  Club Travel Policy  All coaches should be familiar with the club's travel policy.

5.  If you are a paid coach, complete IRS Form W-9 and provide to the Treasurer.  Mail to:  Total Futbol Academy, Attn: Katie Hannum, P.O. Box 45, Cleves, OH 45002, or email to:  [email protected].  This must be done every year.

6.  Register as Coach in the club's Stack Sports system.  Each coach should create a Stack Sports account and register as a Coach.  (Or, if you have a child with the club, use your family account.)  This must be done each year.  Click on the link below to step-by-step instructions on how to register.

The State of Ohio Return to Play Concussion Law

In order to protect young athletes, the State of Ohio has passed a concussion law, commonly called the “Return to Play” law. This law, similar to laws enacted in most other states, imposes training, safety, and awareness requirements on youth sports organizations, like OSYSA, and its leagues, tournaments, coaches, referees, officials, and athletes and their families. 

With this new law, Ohio youth sports organizations must ensure that all coaches and referees that work within their jurisdiction take an online concussion awareness training course available through the Ohio Department of Health website.  This online training course must be taken at least once every three years.  

Per ORC 3707.52 as enacted by Ohio HB 143 of the 129th General Assembly, ODH is required to post free training programs that train coaches and referees in recognizing the signs and symptoms of concussions and head injuries.

TFA prefers that all of our coaches use the course certification offered by the National Federation of State High School Associations in Sports (NFHS).

The following free online training has been approved by the Ohio Department of Health for coaches and referees:

Step by Step Guide for Completing NFHS Concussion Training

This free on-line course is available through the NFHS. You will need to click the “order here” button and complete a brief registration form to take the course.

Follow these steps to complete the course:

1.  Click on the button that says, please login to order.  In the window that appears, click Register Now.
2.  When your registration is complete you may "order" the free concussion course offered along the left hand side of the page.  Continue following prompts.  
3.  Although it may look like you'll be charged for the course, there is no cost.
4.  Once you've completed "checkout," you'll be able to take the free online course.When you've completed and passed the course, you have the option of printing a certificate of completion.
5.  One copy of your certificate of completion mus be turned in to the club.
